As the nominees arrived for Prestige Events 6th annual COOL Venue awards, the boastful Ministry of Sound in London's Elephant and Castle set the scene; showering early party goers with soulful music and comps to twist the arm of even the strongest-willed guests out on a school night.
As we pulled up, albeit slightly later than hoped, you could see the crowds gathering outside, there was a definite buzz around this year's awards and with good reason, with some of the world's most prestigious brands and biggest attractions battling it out for the coveted awards.
Standing in line, Prestige added their typically glamorous touch with a certain½ Keith Lemon pulling attendees from the crowd and serving them with a luscious mixology of Caribbean flavours. Once at the front, cameras flashed from all angles and as we entered the venue the true VIP experience was complete!
This was the 6th Annual COOL Venue awards and Prestige Events made a point of not letting its guests forget it. As winners of 2011's 'COOLest for Corporate Fun' award, TopGolf were automatically added to the nominee list this year, but as with all of the categories the competition had ramped up with the likes of Centre Parcs, Up at the 02, Go Ape, NamCo and Alton Towers all in with a chance to take our number one spot.
The largest Cool Venue ceremony to date, Prestige's very own Wesley Mendy (Publisher of Prestige Events) was joined by original garage head and former Radio 1 DJ, DJ Spoony. As if requested by JT himself, the pair rocked up to the stage in suits and ties to host what would be a memorable night for all.
The awards were a mix of repeat offenders and dangerous new comers but for one award in particular it had the whole team on tender hooks. As Wesley prepped the envelope for the 'COOLest for corporate fun', we were listening in anxiously, as hardly any of last year's winners were able to repeat their wins for a second year. I looked over and saw a few of the team looking on, others preparing their 'Joey' smiles and one, not naming names, making his way to the bar for an early consolation top-up.
As the envelope opened and Wesley leaned over to the mic, the 4-feet surrounding my chair erupted with the cheers from the TopGolf team. I couldn't believe it, for the second year running TopGolf had won the 'COOLest for Corporate Fun' award.
This was one of the most fiercely fought categories and with so many of the UK's most well-known attractions and London-based venues vying for the top spot, we were proud that our venues were recognised for all our hard work over the past year.
After the nominations were announced, the Ministry of Sound played host to an inspired set list from urban girl duo Miss Chance who raised the atmosphere for a sequence of live dance performances that followed.
The night was full of entertainment and we can certainly say the Prestige events team put on a night to remember. Big thank you has to go to all of our TopGolf members and visitors, you've won this award just as much as we have!
