Auditioning for the Tee-Up Crew at TopGolf

Auditioning for the Tee-Up Crew at TopGolf

As I write this, I'm finishing my seventh week with TopGolf. The Talent Management team has spent the last three weeks hosting Tee-Up Crew auditions. We have visited every site in the U.S. and will have seen almost 60 Associates who want to join the Tee-Up Crew for The Colony site opening.

So what IS the Tee-Up Crew, you ask? Well, the Tee-Up Crew acts as the dream team at each new TopGolf location, helping to hire, train and share the TopGolf culture with 350-400 recruits. So far we've seen rappers, poets, baseball players, hula hoopers, beauty pageant contestants, pottery makers, bakers½even a pirate!

Each Associate brought his/her unique personality to the audition process, but the messages all candidates communicated were surprisingly similar.

  • They want to extend the TopGolf family - The #1 reply to, "Why do you want to be a part of the Tee-Up Crew?" is that TopGolf has become their family. They like their work, but they love their TopGolf family. And they want to see that same family spirit extend to the new sites.
  • They want to grow - Another recurring theme is their desire to to improve - to develop new skills and seek out opportunities to grow with TopGolf. They see TopGolf as a place where they can learn and be successful. They recognize the skills and insights TopGolf has already given them (like customer service and hospitality) and understand that there's an opportunity to grow their leadership, communication and training skills as a member of the Tee-Up Crew.
  • They want to give back - Finally, over and over, we saw a strong desire to pass on the TopGolf experience to new Associates. Whether it's their own experience or the experiences they hear about from Tee-Up Crew Members who return to their home site after an opening, they want to be a part of it. It's an inspiring display of hospitality that exists at every level of our team.

I've heard Tee-Up Crews work very long hours and are away from home for weeks at a time. So why would almost 60 Associates want to volunteer for that? After having the opportunity to meet so many of our TopGolf Associates and seeing the commitment, talent and knowledge that each one brings, I'm really not surprised. TopGolf IS flat out fun½and it's family.

This audition experience makes me feel great about my decision to make TopGolf my new extended family. I also see the opportunity to grow and learn, particularly from the highly engaged Associates at our sites. And it has inspired me to give back as well, to redouble my efforts toward providing our Associates with the training they need to grow in their career and to support the TopGolf brand and culture.

I'm looking forward to week eight (and beyond) now more than ever.
