Happy Couple Finds TopGolf

Happy Couple Finds TopGolf "Engaging" for Wedding Photos

A few months ago, Dallas couple Thy Truong and Jonathan Detten approached me about having their engagement photos shot at TopGolf. As a hopeless romantic and eager promoter of all that is TopGolf, I couldn't have been more excited to fulfill their request.

I asked Thy if I could post their pictures (taken by AlexM) on our blog, and she graciously agreed. See the photos and my interview with Thy after the jump.

How has TopGolf played a role in your relationship? Well, if anyone knows me, you would know that I do not care for golf! I don't understand the sport and even when I tried, I kind of lost interest quickly. When Jonathan and I moved to Dallas almost two years ago, I came up with the idea to go try out TopGolf. I kept hearing people talk about it and thought, "Why not try something new?" I saw it as a compromise since I always refused to go to the golf course with him. I've dragged him to art museums, shopping trips, chick-flicks and plays, so it was my time to do something he enjoyed. Sure enough, we had a great time, and we both loved it! And of course he was so excited because it gave him a chance to teach me something that he's always loved.

What was the first date at TopGolf like? The first time we went to TopGolf was my first time ever swinging a golf club, besides putt-putt, but of course but that doesn't count. He was so impressed that I picked up on it so quickly. Not that I'm a pro, but in his opinion I was doing better than most people who are beginners. I was pretty proud of myself! We loved being able to hang out, do something that he loves, and of course when you add food and alcohol to anything, it always makes it more fun!

How did you and your fiancé meet? We met while working together in the restaurant business. When Jonathan first started, I did not care for him at all! He asked me out every day for over a month and kept telling me that all he needed was one date to prove to me that there were still good guys out there. I said no every single time and finally gave in one day just to shut him up. Shortly after, I backed out of the date. He didn't like that so much. I didn't know it then, but he had already planned this extravagant date for us.

He never stopped trying though. He left roses on my car after work, notes, cards, anything he could do just to make me feel special. To this day, he is still the most persistent man I know and still manages to surprise me at random moments. He knows what he wants, and he doesn't give up until he gets it. That was one of the main factors that drew me into him again. It showed me that no matter what, he would always try his best to make sure that I was happy, and even if I wasn't going to be with him, he was going to still prove to me that he is a great guy.

It wasn't until about a month later that I changed my mind AGAIN and agreed to go out on that one date with him. Needless to say, he took me out on our first date on January 16, 2007, and the rest is history. I could not imagine my life without him. When we're together, nothing and nobody else matters. On August 16, 2012, he got down on one knee and proposed to me. It was and still is the best moment in my life so far. He went above anything I could have envisioned myself. I still get butterflies when I think of that moment.

Where are you getting married? We will be getting married in Tyler, TX on September 21, 2013. It's getting close!

Where is your honeymoon? Unfortunately, we haven't even planned a honeymoon. Our whole wedding is being paid out of our own pockets, so expenses for a honeymoon were not in our budget. It's funny to think about it, but Jonathan and I have never had a vacation with just the two of us for the 6 ½ years we've been together. So we're really hoping to take a honeymoon! Maybe we'll hit the lottery!

Where are your and your fiance's hometowns? I am from Tyler, TX, and Jonathan is from Liberty City (that town is about a mile long, lol)

Which TopGolf do you usually play at - Dallas or Allen? Dallas, we have this theory that we both play better at the Dallas location. We tried playing in Allen and both did horrible that day! Luck may not have been on our side that day.

Thy and Jonathan, TopGolf wishes you a lifetime of love, happiness and FUN! We are adding $100 to Thy's Dallas membership account AND providing a $500 Southwest Airlines gift card as our wedding gift to you. Please take that honeymoon!
