Before I begin, let's take our minds back to the year 2000, the year the very first TopGolf facility opened its doors in Watford, England. Back then, the phrase "social media" was unknown to the majority of our guests, and you would have been lucky to get a mobile phone with a coloured screen - let alone having a camera attached!
Fast forward 13 years, and things have all changed. Facebook, the leading force behind the rise in social media, now has more than 1.1 billion users worldwide who can access and share content using a variety of platforms. Smartphones, in particular, allow users to take photos and upload them instantly to the social media app of their choice. So how does this all relate to TopGolf?
Like technology and social media, TopGolf has evolved into an experience like no other. Whether you're here to play the game, enjoy our food and drink, or to take part in one of our many challenges, TopGolf is all about creating "moments" that last forever! What social media and technology has allowed us to do is share those moments by uploading content to the web, especially pictures!
Unlike the year 2000 when people had to rely on word of mouth to demonstrate the fun times they had, guests can now snap and share a picture or video within seconds! What's more, these new platforms have allowed us to create some really fun promotions to enhance the guest experience, such as #MySummerThing and #TopGolfAfterDark!
