The Grand Opening VIP Party is always the last hoorah of each new site opening. The Perfect 10 campaign for the 10th location in The Colony, TX has lived up to its name!
To quote CultureMap Dallas, "The Colony may have been the last place in Dallas-Fort Worth you'd expect to find a star-studded affair. But TopGolf brought its A-game." (A-list Athletes Take a Swing at TopGolf The Colony Grand Opening)
So let me tell you how it all came together. If you haven't seen the news reports or the stories online, the party was a "Who's Who" of local Dallas sports and celebrities.
We started planning the event in August. That's right, four months of planning to make it all come together. We live in one of the hottest sports town in the country, and did we mention how many TV shows are filmed here? So we HAD to get celebrities to attend this party. How do you get these celebrities and VIPs of Dallas to come to the Colony, TX? These people haven't been north of I-635 in years!
Well, how about free rides? A celebrity won't ride in a cab or take the DART. Does the DART even go past 635? So how do we get rides? What's the coolest thing going on in transportation? UBER! We put our awesome Director of Strategic Partnerships to work! Rodney, we want FREE UBER rides to the Colony, TX! What½where's The Colony, TX? Is that a ticket on Southwest Airlines or AA? Fortunately, UBER was all for it. They gave us 100 free rides and a 30% discount to anyone naming TopGolf The Colony as the destination on Nov. 18. Now that's awesome.
Ok, now how do we entertain everyone? TopGolf, of course½but what else?
How about an art show? Art½at TopGolf? We asked our friends at Red Bull if they could help us. As always, they came through. Artist Leighton Autrey agreed to paint a custom Red Bull drink cooler live during our grand opening party. Check out Leighton's story on YouTube:
But that wasn't going to be enough. We needed something happening on every level of the building. Lower level½check. What about the main level?
It has to be the food. We have to have the smell of some amazing food filling the building and grabbing the guests' attention the moment they walked through the door. Our fabulous Corporate Executive Chef Seve Delgado pulled together the best menu you've ever heard of, complete with a live cooking station serving up seared scallops over cheddar grits. Can't you just smell it now?! And to top it off, smoked bacon lollipops and mini pumpkin pies.
Now for the upper level terrace½of course, entertainment! Who's the hottest DJ to the socialite crowd? DJ Lucy Wrubel. We invited her to perform on the upper-level terrace on the first-of-its-kind TopGolf stage. If you haven't seen this thing, it rivals any stage at Lollapalooza.
To capture the night, we needed EPIC photos. Enter½a photo booth from Smilebooth that can tweet your photo to friends, upload it to Facebook, email or text message. Did we mention YOU get control over when the pics are snapped? Now that's fun! We also threw in a red carpet set in front of our own TopGolf-branded photo wall with an eight-foot tall "10," calling out our perfect 10 site!
Now, who to invite?
Calling in every favor from anyone we ever knew, we made a list of Dallas' influential socialites. With the help of our board members, PR team Giant Noise and our own TopGolf team, we invited more than 1,000 guests!
Thank you to everyone who agreed to come see our new site in The Colony, TX. The list of attendees is long and distinguished: Troy Aikman, Tony Romo, Hunter Mahan, Marty Turco, Bradie James, Bo Van Pelt, Colt Knost, Tyler Seguin, Jordie Benn, and many, many more. But the party would have meant nothing without the true fans of TopGolf coming! The real VIPs at the party were our Twilight campout winners, each of our Platinum Members, fans from Facebook and Twitter, guests who met our street team throughout the city, and our partners who help support us to run our business.
The party is over, the guests have picked up their goodie bags and taken their rides home from UBER. The perfect 10 is open, and I'm ready for the next site. See you all in Houston as I begin work on #11.
