A Day in the Life of Topgolf

SHHH!! It’s a Secret!

Okay, it’s not really a secret, but what exactly goes on behind the scenes at a Topgolf location? Well, I can tell you that after a full day behind-the-scenes tour, it is clear that the day-to-day operations at Topgolf are more than what meets the eye. There are many different Associate positions (450+, to be exact!) that make Topgolf run smoothly, including teams in maintenance, the kitchen, the tee line, the bar, the sales office, marketing and many more! Here’s a sneak peek behind the scenes at Topgolf in The Colony, TX.

Maintenance: The core of any Topgolf location is the running and upkeep of the equipment. While I know this sounds like it might be a boring part of the tour, it turned out to be one of the most fascinating. As this was our first stop of the day, we were able to walk on to the range and get a close-up view of the targets before guests arrived.

Our local maintenance expert showed and explained everything from golf ball microchips to bay screens. This team keeps the ball dispensers full of balls so that our Guests never run out. They make sure all of our golf clubs remain in great shape. They get the balls picked up from the outfield using the cool Kubota, and they make sure all of the balls get cleaned. Can you imagine being in charge of literally hundreds of thousands of golf balls?!


Kitchen: Mmmmm, now that’s what I’m talking about. Once we donned our aprons, we embarked on an intense cooking frenzy. I was surprised to learn that the majority of our food is made from scratch. In fact, the Topgolf kitchen is prepping and cooking food approximately 20 hours per day!

In the end, we found ourselves surrounded by a variety of delicious entrées, including nachos, flatbreads, chicken and waffles sliders and, of course, a Topgolf original Mushi (Mexican sushi). Our talented Sous Chef, Matt, was so helpful, which provided a great and yummy experience for us. Because no tour would be complete without a competitive, yet friendly, round of Topgolf, we headed to the bays and teed it up after lunch.


Event Sales and Membership: Did you know that Topgolf can assist and help plan almost any kind of event, from birthday and bachelorette parties to corporate meetings? A typical Topgolf location hosts approximately 100 events per week. Guests of all ages love the fun atmosphere and EDGY SPIRIT that a Topgolf facility lends to its special events. Seeing how Associates plan the perfect party was a fun glimpse into a whole other side of Topgolf.

Bartending: After exploring the various bars around the building, it was time for a refreshing beverage. Topgolf’s signature drinks, such as the Melon Mulligan, Punch Party and Pineapple Express, need to be on everyone’s summer drink menu! Psst…the Grey Goose 19th Hole cocktail was developed with a little help from PGA pro Matt Kuchar!


Management and Pre-Shift: As our tour came to a close, we had the opportunity to sit in on a pre-shift meeting and speak with Managers about staff scheduling. While each Associate has his or her own distinct role at the facility, the ONE TEAM environment and philosophy is readily apparent. Every Topgolf Associate strives for EXCELLENCE within each role and during every shift, thus ensuring a FUN and memorable time for our Guests.
