March is a month of rituals, like making your bracket for which team will make it to the end in the college basketball finals, drinking green beer by those who claim to be Irish just for a day and waiting for the Easter bunny to fill your basket with favorite sweets. March unlike a lot of months has no clear theme, but maybe it’s the mishmash of special occasions that makes it the kick-off of fun for all ages, especially here at Topgolf OKC.
So first let’s talk about the bracket ritual. I am always amazed at the intensity of most guys filling out their bracket. I’ve always wondered about the logic in bracket-making. Which stats matter? Does a good-looking coach count? While I don’t know much, I do know during our “Bballs, Brews, Brackets”, happening March 3rd through April 4th, I’ll be cheering for my alma mater, the Oklahoma Sooners while I sip on $3.50 domestic bottles! It’s been exciting and fun to watch them during the season and I bet we’ll see a couple of the players go to the pros someday. My bracket strategy is simple, I am just skipping to the end and declaring them the winner. Sooner born, Sooner bred!
Then there’s the ritual of drinking green beer on St. Patrick’s Day. I especially love the spirited sense of fun this day symbolizes. In celebration, I wear green, drink green and eat green. All of which I can do during Topgolf’s “shamROCK.” I can’t wait to drink $3.00 Coors Light green drafts with friends, savor my favorite guacamole topped nachos, listen to good music and play in the green target challenge for some friendly competition. As sure as I’m Irish for a day, “shamROCK” will be my favorite St. Patty’s Day spot for Irish fun Saturday, March 12th and Thursday, March 17th.
Topping the ritual list is getting your favorite candy from the Easter bunny. Easter is the last week of March and feels a little unexpected. Not unexpected though is seeing kids dressed up as cute as can be, baskets in hand, excited about having “Cotton Candy with the Easter Bunny” taking place March 27th 11:00a.m. through 2:00p.m. For me, I count on having the only time of the year, yellow marshmallow chicks, to show up in my childhood basket. It’s a fond reminder that we’re all kids at heart.
No doubt, March is a mishmash of special occasions this year, but one thing I can guarantee is Topgolf’s culture of fun means it’s going to be just that, for everyone, including me.
