With New Year’s Day falling on a Thursday this year, I thought, “What better topic to blog about?” So I’m going to throw it back on this “Throwback Thursday” and talk about what we have done for the Austin community during the last year.
In one of my previous blogs, I spoke about how Topgolf Austin finds it important to carry on special characteristics of the city. These characteristics include pride in the color burnt orange, our passion and, of course, our weirdness. But as I sit here and reflect on everything we have done after being open in Austin for more than a year, I am beginning to realize just how much involvement we truly have had in the community.
We love to give back! Since we are in the hospitality industry, we are used to serving others, so we feel it very important to get involved in the community, whether it be volunteering at places like the Capital Area Food Bank or for Susan G. Komen for the Cure events. We’ve given back by participating in events like “Over the Edge” and the Go Mitch Go Foundation’s golf tournament and by supporting Central Texas’ Make-A-Wish chapter. We have even given back by donating hundreds of gift cards and gift bags to silent auctions at local public school events and other local charities. Caring is one of Topgolf’s Core Values, so giving back is close to our hearts here in Austin.
How else have we contributed to the Austin community? JOBS. And we mean A LOT of them. Did you know that we have more than 450 hard-working, amazingly talented and enthusiastic Associates in our four walls? That’s right! We have people that do everything from welcome you right when you walk into our doors, to teach you the ins and outs of swinging a golf club, to preparing and prepping every last detail on that delicious Mushi you can find only at Topgolf.
And finally, Topgolf Austin gets involved in the community through those totally weird Austin events, like Queso-off, La Dulce Vita, Spring Fest and SXSW. Whether it’s an event that exalts the gloriousness that liquid cheese truly is, or it’s the technology, sports, film and music festival that has grown into an international tourist and geek attraction, you can find Topgolf involved in some way, shape or form. While we didn’t take home the coveted Queso-Off trophy this year, we had the opportunity to share samples of our signature Topgolf queso and other popular dishes. We were also the Cinderella story for the second year in a row at the annual La Dulce Vita Food & Wine Fest. We pride ourselves on our Edgy Spirit at Topgolf, so if there’s a competition happening, we’re throwing our name in the hat!
Needless to say, 2014 was an outstanding year for us here in Music Capital of the World. We can’t wait to see what 2015 has to bring, as it is sure to be another incredible year in the one and only Austin, Texas.
Until next time, Peace, Love, & Bobby Sherman.
